“Energetic visionary.”
“Working under Travis’ inspired leadership as a part of the Second Mile Water team was extremely influential on my development as a designer and marketing professional. Travis is an energetic, creative and talented visionary. If you’re seeking a creative professional to bring the extraordinary to fruition I recommend you look no further than Travis.”
–Kayleen Cohen, Content & Marketing Specialist at Mtn. Dog Media
“An amazing ability to inspire.”
“Working for Travis was a joy. His passion inspired me to do great work, but his personality inspired me to reach higher in life. Travis excels in his ability to inspire so that the best possible work is done while also giving the creative freedom to bring our own ideas into the mix. He is great at strategizing, is extremely approachable and always open to new ideas.”
– Sam Hester, Intern Alum, Second Mile Water
“Exceptionally talented.”
I’m officially a Colorado native, but I’m not bumper-sticker certified. I grew up mostly in rural Oklahoma, where we had an old red tractor in the front yard, a pickup named ol’ Yeller in the drive, and a hound dog named ol’ Blue that milled about in the shade. After weathering years of Oklahoma’s sweltering heat, tornadoes, and general lack of mountains, in 2004 I moved to Colorado and haven’t looked back.
Through random chance I met my wonderful wife, Laura, on a shoestring road trip with a friend across the western US in 2003. We’ve been married since 2006, and our family is now growing – we have one curious, grinning, slapstick little 4 year old little boy named Tate and as of September 25, 2014, he has a new partner in crime named Reid, AKA the Reid McSteed. We also have an old orange Volkswagen Bus named Guanella who, after taking us away from our wedding and carrying us across the US multiple times, has earned her spot as an official part of the family.
I’ve earned two degrees from the University of Colorado to back up my work experience – an undergrad in Communications and a Master of Science in Civil/Environmental Engineering. I’d like to think that through my experience I’ve picked up a master’s in marketing and small business operations as well, but I don’t have the pieces of paper to hang on the wall.
Random Facts:
- When I was 8 I was featured in the local paper for having the Most Unusual Car in the Boy Scouts Pinewood Derby. It’s still my biggest life accomplishment.
- When I was 17 I jumped on a moving coal train.
- When I was 19, a couple friends and I drove Chinese motorcycles across Southeast Asia, from the Himalaya of China to the Northern Jungles of Laos all the way to the sandy beaches in the gulf of Thailand (and somehow lived to tell the tale).
- When I was 20, a friend and I tried to raft the roaring Yangzte River in China…on a picnic table. And yes, that inner tube is our life vest.
- I’m an incurable, mechanically minded gearhead. I bootstrapped my way through college by buying and restoring antique cars. My first business was called Fountain of Youth Restorations. While I don’t haul forgotten classics out of fields much any more, my scarred knuckles tell the stories of my days buried in engine bays. I now get my kicks working on our VW bus and jotting around town on a spinny little 44 year old scooter. Honk if you see a guy scooting around Boulder with his kid hanging out the back.
- When I’m old I hope to forge my own pistons in my garage like Burt Munro, tell stories like Thor Heyerdahl, and convince my grandchildren that I wasn’t always a fibery old man.
